Canfield- Services celebrating the life of Dominic Staffrey will be held at 11am Thursday at the Lane Family Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. Dom died Monday morning at his residence. Dom was born December 6, 1922 in Vienna, Ohio the son of Achille and Theresa Schiavone Staffrey. Dom was a member of Christ Church, Glenwood Ave. Boardman. He was a POW during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart while serving the US Army. He was a member of Ellsworth VFW, Steel Valley POW's and American Legion Post 301. Dom's love was his horses; he was trainer, and driver of "Missouri Time" who was a world champion horse. Dom was Past President of Canfield Horseman Association, member of Ohio Harness Horseman Association and had been a driver and trainer for 40 years. He was honored to be on the" Wall of Fame" at Northfield Park. He loved to garden and his generosity showed as he was giving vegetables to everyone. He also loved to play cards. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 70 years Jeanne Kreitzburg whom he married April 1, 1944. He will also be missed by; his brothers-in-laws, Alma Jean (Robert) Brown, Edward (Millie) Kreitzburg, Ray Kreitzburg, Charles (Sandy) Kreitzburg and several nieces and nephews. Dom was preceded in death by his son Chris in 2000 and brothers, Chris, Leonard and Michael Staffrey Family and friend may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. The Staffrey family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the church in Dom's memory.
